Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani was suspended from the Gujarat Assembly on Monday for creating a ruckus during proceedings. The suspension followed Mevani's allegations of financial discrepancies by district collectors during last year's Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat.
Mevani alleged that some collectors inflated election expenses, creating an additional financial burden on the state. He highlighted examples, such as an exaggerated bill for a temporary canopy and inflated expense claims for food and transportation.
The state minister insisted that the Election Commission, not the state government, was responsible for overseeing the conduct of Lok Sabha elections. Mevani's persistence resulted in his suspension by Deputy Speaker Jethabhai Bharwad, reinforcing tension within the Assembly.
