The Election Commission of India (ECI) has reached out to national and state political parties, soliciting their suggestions on unresolved electoral issues by April 30. In its effort to bolster the electoral process, the commission has proposed direct interactions with party leaders to ensure adherence to established laws.
Last week's conference, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, emphasized the importance of regular dialogues between Electoral Registration Officers, District Election Officers, Chief Electoral Officers, and political parties. Kumar instructed these officials to report back on the implementation of party suggestions by March 31, 2025, reinforcing the idea of decentralized engagement.
The move comes as opposition parties allege misconduct in the electoral process. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) plans to submit a memorandum addressing discrepancies noted in Odisha's 2024 elections, while Trinamool Congress and Congress leaders, notably Rahul Gandhi, have raised concerns about voter list integrity. Accusations against the central government and Election Commission imply misuse of power to influence elections.
