Former national security adviser Henrik Landerholm has been charged with careless handling of classified information, according to Swedish prosecutors. The charges relate to an incident where Landerholm allegedly left confidential documents in an unlocked safe at a conference hotel.

The indictment states that this negligent act involved "information relating to conditions of a secret nature and whose disclosure to a foreign power could cause harm to Sweden's security." The documents were subsequently returned, but the investigation had already begun.

Landerholm, appointed by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's government in 2022, resigned in January 2025 as the inquiry into his actions progressed. His lawyer has not yet commented on the charges.
