Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has responded to statements made by RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, who questioned the usage of 'India' in official contexts. Abdullah asserted that the nation embraces multiple identities, highlighting the usage of names like Bharat, India, and Hindustan.
Rafiqul Islam, MLA and General Secretary of the All India United Democratic Front, criticized the RSS leader's stance as divisive, challenging that if names keep changing, then 'RSS' should consider changing its name as well. He defended the pride associated with the diverse names of the country.
At a recent book launch, Hosabale advocated for the exclusive use of 'Bharat', questioning the prominence of 'India' in official documents and institutions. He linked this with historical colonial influences, emphasizing a nationalistic vision of rising for global welfare, not dominance.
