The Congress accused the BJP on Monday of stalling parliamentary proceedings by raising a 'fake issue' about reservations for Muslims in Karnataka government contracts. Heated debates erupted, with the BJP claiming Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar suggested constitutional amendments for a four per cent reservation for Muslims.
Shivakumar has denied proposing any constitutional changes, emphasizing he was absent during discussions. In response, Congress officials criticized the BJP for allegedly fabricating issues to divert attention from more pressing matters, such as Justice Yashwant Varma's conduct.
BJP representatives, including Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, countered, saying statements on changing the Constitution to implement reservations are unacceptable. The ongoing dispute resulted in parliament session disruptions, with both parties demanding clarification and accountability.
