Germany's new Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, confirmed the country's unwavering support to Ukraine during a telephone call with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. The conversation, as reported by a government spokesperson, underscored Germany's commitment to opposing Russian aggression.
Merz, who took office following his party's victory in the federal elections, expressed Germany's backing of U.S. President Donald Trump's mediation efforts. These efforts are in close alignment with other European countries, aiming to assist Ukraine in strengthening its defenses.
In response, Zelenskiy mentioned in his nightly video address that he and Merz had agreed on mutual cooperative actions. "There are already concrete things that we can do together," Zelenskiy stated, hinting at forthcoming decisions on collaborative projects.
