Defence Ministry Urges Media to Refrain from Real-Time Reporting amid Rising Security Concerns

The Ministry of Defence has issued a stern advisory to media outlets and digital platforms, urging them to refrain from live coverage or real-time reporting of defence operations. This caution underscores the significant risk media exposure poses to military strategies and potentially endangers lives during sensitive operations.

This directive aligns with Clause 6(1)(p) of the Cable Television Networks (Amendment) Rules, 2021, limiting operational updates during counter-terror situations to authorized officials. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted a high-profile review of national security at the Ministry of Defence following the thwarted drone assault from Pakistan, which occurred a day after India targeted terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

The strategic discussions were attended by top military leaders, including Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, emphasizing the serious nature of the regional security climate. Following a retaliatory move, Defence forces, with the aid of the Akash air defence system, successfully repulsed a series of drone and ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Western Border, underlining India's commitment to countering threats.
