In a significant political shift, Dr K Beichhua has been elected as the president of the BJP's Mizoram unit, succeeding Vanlalhmuaka, who led the party for two consecutive terms. This decision marks a new chapter for the BJP in Mizoram, with Beichhua urging residents to join the party for comprehensive development.
The internal party election, held on Sunday, concluded with Beichhua's unopposed selection. The announcement was made by Vanathi Srinivasan, president of BJP National Mahila Morcha and national returning officer for the organisational election. Beichhua has called for an end to reliance on past ruling parties, emphasizing the BJP's commitment to uplifting the economically disadvantaged in Mizoram.
Beichhua's political journey has seen him serve two terms as a legislator from Siaha constituency under the Mizo National Front before joining the BJP in October 2023 after his expulsion from the MNF. As he steps into this new role, Beichhua is one of two BJP MLAs in the 40-member Mizoram assembly, poised to steer the party towards future growth in the region.
