China Sanctions Filipino Lawmaker Over South China Sea Dispute

In a move highlighting escalating territorial tensions, China has sanctioned former Filipino lawmaker Francis Tolentino over his alleged 'anti-China' stance, citing his role in proposing bills asserting the Philippines' territorial claims in the contentious South China Sea region.

According to a statement from China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tolentino is now barred from entering China, as well as its territories of Hong Kong and Macao. The statement accuses certain Filipino politicians of harming China's interests for personal gains, vowing that China remains resolute in defending its national interests.

Undeterred, Tolentino announced on social media that he views the sanction as a sign of honor and vowed to continue advocating for his country's rightful maritime claims. The Philippines and China have experienced increasing confrontations over the disputed waters, with incidents involving coast guard forces escalating in recent years.
