Opposition Criticizes Modi's Silence in Rajya Sabha

On Wednesday, opposition parties took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for abstaining from a debate on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor in the Rajya Sabha. Despite being in Parliament, Modi did not attend the session, an action that opposition leaders including the Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge labeled an insult to the members.

The debate, which lasted 16 hours, saw several questions directed at the Prime Minister. Congress leader Pramod Tiwari termed the event a 'dark day' for democracy, accusing the government of betraying their understanding that Modi would address the House. Instances of derogatory language used by Home Minister Amit Shah were also condemned.

Tiruchi Siva from DMK and RJD's Manoj Jha criticized Shah's dismissive remarks, questioning the absence of the Prime Minister. Ritabrata Banerjee of the TMC raised concerns over potential international implications, highlighting the lack of response regarding tariffs and a ceasefire allegedly involving Trump. Shah claimed he was capable of handling the opposition's queries.
