In a declaration on Sunday, Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi announced the party's intent to redistribute land allegedly occupied illegally by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his ministers. This plan will be implemented if Congress takes power in the next state elections.
Following the Extended Executive Meeting of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Gogoi addressed the media, asserting that the state's residents are disillusioned with Sarma's government. The Congress party aims to bring about significant reforms in land and economic policies to benefit the people.
Gogoi asserted that the land, purportedly acquired to safeguard rights, will be returned to the poor. This move will be a priority in the first cabinet meeting should the Congress party form the new government.
