Jharkhand's government schools and several private institutions in Ranchi will observe a closure on Tuesday to honor the late Shibu Soren, a former chief minister, said an official.
The School Education and Literacy Department Secretary, Uma Shankar Singh, confirmed the suspension of classes on August 5, aligned with the state mourning period.
The state has declared a three-day state mourning to commemorate Soren, founder of the ruling JMM, who died at 81 in a New Delhi hospital. All government offices will be closed, and scheduled programs are canceled. Flags will fly at half-mast.
