The incident occurred near the Lebanese-Syrian border, with Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reporting six casualties and ten people injured. The airstrike coincides with Israel's ongoing tensions with Palestinian factions in Lebanon as part of broader regional conflicts escalating since October 2023.

The PFLP announced Wishah's passing in a statement, noting his longstanding involvement with the group since 1973. Since the Israel-Hamas conflict reignited, Israeli airstrikes have pinpointed Palestinian and Hezbollah figures in Lebanon, bringing renewed focus to the fragile state of regional security.
