Karnataka Congress MLA Basavaraju V Shivaganga asserted that Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar is set to assume the role of Chief Minister after December. This assertive declaration has sparked political controversy, drawing criticism and labeling from Shivakumar himself as a 'violation of party discipline.'
Shivakumar, also serving as the Congress state president, responded firmly to Shivaganga's repeated claims, emphasizing the need for party unity and discipline. He announced plans to issue a notice to Shivaganga, stressing the party's stance against such speculative talk about leadership changes.
The speculation arises from alleged power-sharing arrangements between the current Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, with many in the political sphere anticipating a change. However, Siddaramaiah has reiterated his intent to serve a complete five-year term, challenging any suggested transitions in leadership.
