Rodrigo Paz Leads Bolivia's Political Transformation

Centrist senator Rodrigo Paz emerged as the frontrunner in Bolivia's presidential election late Sunday, ushering in a potential political shift as preliminary results suggest the ruling Movement for Socialism (MAS) is headed for an unprecedented electoral defeat.

Paz, representing the Christian Democratic Party, secured 32.18% of the vote, ahead of MAS candidate Eduardo del Castillo, who only managed 3.16%, according to early results from Bolivia's electoral tribunal released Sunday night. Conservative ex-President Jorge "Tuto" Quiroga, from the Alianza coalition, trailed closely at 26.94%.

The election, marked by Bolivia's fragile economy and the absence of former president Evo Morales, could lead to a pivotal runoff if no candidate exceeds the 40% vote threshold with a 10-point lead. Official results are expected within a week, setting a potential showdown for change in governance and economic strategy.
