Protests Erupt in West Bengal Over ISF Leaders’ Arrest

Activists from the Indian Secular Front (ISF) held protests across West Bengal on Thursday, demanding the release of Nawsad Siddique, the party's sole MLA, along with other detained members. Their detention followed a demonstration against the Waqf Amendment Act and perceived mistreatment of Bengali migrants.

Protests were notably vigorous outside Bankshall court where Siddique was to be presented. Supporters of ISF demonstrated by burning tires in Haroa and vocally criticizing the government. Authorities responded with stringent security measures, establishing barricades to prevent mass entry and ensuring traffic flow.

An ISF leader stated that the arrests followed a non-violent protest addressing crucial regional issues and warned of escalating movements if the detainees were not released. Meanwhile, police officials maintained that minimal force was used to dissipate disruptions during the prior day's demonstration.
