The incident resulted in 41 casualties and over 60 injuries. Senior IPS officer Asra Garg has been appointed to lead the investigation.
Garg, who currently serves as the Inspector General of Police in the North Zone, will spearhead the probe into the unfortunate events. The decision comes in response to growing public outcry and the need for accountability in the incident that marred the rally.
The court's decision also included strong criticism of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionaries, highlighting the need for responsibility and better management during political events to prevent such tragedies in the future.
