In a tragic turn of events, a stampede at a political rally led by actor-politician Vijay in Karur claimed the lives of 41 individuals. DMK leader Senthil Balaji stepped in to deliver relief funds to those injured, as part of a compensation initiative by the Tamil Nadu government.
According to official reports, the compensation varied, with individuals requiring brief hospital stays receiving Rs 50,000, while those hospitalized for more extended periods received Rs 1 lakh. The government had previously announced Rs 10 lakh for the deceased's families.
Controversy surrounds Vijay, who opted for virtual condolences via video call, stirring criticism. The tragic incident allegedly stemmed from organizational lapses, including a seven-hour delay in the event, exacerbating the situation at the venue, which hosted nearly triple the expected turnout.
