Bhagirath Manjhi, son of the renowned 'Mountain Man' Dashrath Manjhi, has expressed discontent after allegedly being denied a promised Congress ticket for the Bihar assembly elections. Despite assurances from party leader Rahul Gandhi during a meeting in Delhi, Manjhi found himself excluded from the candidate list.
Manjhi revealed that he had sought an assembly ticket for constituencies Barachhati or Bodh Gaya. His claims come after Gandhi's earlier visit to Gehlaur, where he honored Dashrath Manjhi's legacy. This incident has drawn criticism, with BJP spokesperson Guru Prakash labeling it as an expression of the Congress's anti-Dalit stance.
Gandhi's June visit included honoring Dashrath Manjhi's memorial and constructing a pucca house for his family in Gehlaur. Bhagirath, who shifted political allegiance from Nitish Kumar's JD(U) to Congress, voiced his aspiration to contest soon after joining. The denial of his ticket has sparked a larger debate on political commitments and representation.
