Thirteen candidates remain in contention for the Ghatsila assembly by-election after an independent nominee withdrew, according to an official announcement on Friday.
Vikram Kisku, an independent candidate, retracted his candidacy on the last day to do so, in line with information provided by officials.
The candidates include Babulal Soren of the BJP and Somesh Chandra Soren representing the JMM, in addition to various other party candidates and independents. The East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner, Karn Satyarthi, relayed these details during a press briefing. Voting for the by-election is set for November 11, with vote counting on November 14. The election features 2,56,352 eligible voters and will see 300 polling stations in operation. The by-election was necessitated by the passing of sitting JMM MLA Ramdas Soren on August 15, with the JMM fielding his son Somesh Chandra as the candidate.
