The Election Commission of India has called upon Punjab's Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, to address grievances related to the Tarn Taran Senior Superintendent of Police during the latest assembly bypoll, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The commission previously ordered the suspension of SSP Ravjot Kaur Grewal after Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal claimed that the police unfairly targeted his party's workers. This prompted an investigation by an additional director general rank officer into the registration of FIRs in Tarn Taran.
The EC's scrutiny has brought to light alleged misconduct by local police forces, with accusations of politically motivated actions by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party. Despite objections, police actions in Tarn Taran have raised concerns about the misuse of state machinery ahead of the elections.
