The Assam Assembly erupted into chaos on Friday during discussions centered on the agriculture and tea industries, forcing Deputy Speaker Numal Momin to pause proceedings for 20 minutes.
The session began with a Private Member's Resolution from Leader of Opposition, Debabrata Saikia of the Congress, who highlighted challenges the agriculture sector faces, including low productivity and a lack of digital market linkages for farmers. He also criticized the absence of special incentives for the tea sector.
Commerce and Industry Minister Bimal Borah responded by listing efforts to bolster the tea sector, such as export incentives and worker welfare programs. The prolonged exchange became contentious when Saikia accused the minister of neglecting key concerns, leading to his walkout and subsequent protest by Congress members, resulting in the adjournment.
