In a significant diplomatic development, the U.S. special envoy, Steve Witkoff, held discussions with Ukraine's chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, in Miami. The White House confirmed the productivity of the talks, noting that both sides made progress and are scheduled to meet again.
Witkoff, alongside Jared Kushner, also briefed Ukrainian counterparts on his earlier meeting in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin. While these were informal discussions, they centered around the U.S.-supported peace plan for resolving the ongoing conflict initiated by Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
Yuri Ushakov, a senior adviser to the Kremlin, described the recent meeting between Putin and the U.S. delegation as 'truly friendly' and 'very useful,' indicating significant strides towards mutual understanding.
