Eknath Shinde's revolt in 2022 was a critical turning point in Maharashtra's political landscape, according to Shiv Sena leader Shambhuraj Desai. His defection with 50 loyalist MLAs led to the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led government, enabling the BJP's return to power.
Desai highlighted Shinde's pivotal role in fortifying the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, asserting that no decision was made without consensus with then-Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. Despite criticism from some BJP leaders, the Shiv Sena remains a key player in state politics.
The Mahayuti's success in the elections is credited to Shinde's leadership, Desai stated. Successful policies like Mukhyamantri Mazi Ladki Bahin Yojana and bus fare concessions boosted the alliance's popularity, with the Shiv Sena securing 61 out of 80 contested seats.
