Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has issued a stern warning to those constructing mosques in the name of the Mughal emperor Babar. The warning follows the foundation stone-laying for a mosque, modeled after Ayodhya's Babri Masjid, by suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
Maurya remarked that constructing a mosque is not an issue; however, associating it with Babar will provoke opposition and lead to its dismantlement. He also took the opportunity to criticize the Samajwadi Party's leader, Akhilesh Yadav, suggesting that the latter is experiencing political distress following a major electoral defeat in Bihar.
According to Maurya, the Samajwadi Party's future in upcoming elections is precarious, as evidenced by the symbolic absence of 'red caps' in the state. During his visit to Jhansi, the deputy chief minister reviewed electoral rolls and paid a visit to a local temple in Datia.
