In a decisive move towards enhancing infrastructure, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin inaugurated the Veeramangai Velu Nachiar flyover in Madurai. This event underscored the state's commitment to 'development politics' amidst the backdrop of a political landscape often marked by divisive strategies.

Named after the 18th-century queen Velu Nachiar, known for her resistance against the East India Company, the flyover symbolizes Tamil pride and historical resistance. Politicians across various parties, including actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, align themselves with her legacy, underlining her enduring influence.

Complementing the flyover's inauguration, the event saw the launch of several new initiatives, including the Mullai Periyar drinking water scheme, benefiting over 2.58 lakh families. The Chief Minister also distributed land pattas and welfare assistance, marking one of the largest government outreach programs of his tenure.
