In a tragic turn of events, Vattath Haseena, the opposition Congress-led UDF candidate for the upcoming local body elections in a north Kerala district, has died. Her untimely death comes just days before the crucial elections.

Haseena was contesting from the 7th ward of Payimpadam in the Moothedam village panchayat. On the campaign trail, she diligently visited households, engaging with potential voters. However, after returning home, she experienced chest pain, leading to her sudden collapse.

Despite immediate medical attention at a nearby private hospital, efforts to save her life were unsuccessful. Malappuram, where the elections are scheduled in the second phase on December 11, mourns her loss. The first phase of voting will occur on Tuesday.
