In a surprising turn of events, suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir announced on Monday that he would not resign from the West Bengal Assembly. Previously, he had stated his intention to resign after laying the foundation stone of a Babri Masjid-style mosque in Murshidabad.
Kabir, who represents Bharatpur, explained that he was persuaded by his constituents not to step down, earning significant public backing during the mosque's foundation ceremony. This development has prompted the TMC to reconsider his seating arrangement in the Assembly, positioning him closer to the BJP benches.
Despite his decision to remain an MLA, Kabir reiterated his plan to establish a new political party. Amidst ongoing political tensions, TMC leadership has accused him of attempting communal polarisation, a claim Kabir denies as he seeks alignment with the Congress and Left parties.
