In a significant political move, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is set to lead a crucial debate on election reforms scheduled for Tuesday. This debate follows persistent demands from the opposition for a parliamentary discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls ever since the monsoon session ended.
The government has redirected the focus to a broader discussion on election reforms, emphasizing the independence and autonomy of the Election Commission, an intrinsic constitutional body. The BJP plans to present its side of the discourse with noted figures such as Nishikant Dubey, P P Chaudhary, Abhijit Gangopadhyay, and Sanjay Jaiswal taking the stage.
Alongside Gandhi, the Congress is preparing an impressive lineup of speakers, including K C Venugopal, Manish Tewari, Varsha Gaikwad, Mohammed Jawed, and others, to partake in what promises to be a two-day, high-stakes debate. The discussions are likely to be intensive and pivotal in shaping future election protocols.
