West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a scathing attack on the central government, declaring her state's autonomy in managing welfare schemes and rejecting any reliance on central assistance. In a public address, she emphatically opposed the NRC and CAA, assuring that Bengal will resist any attempts to establish detention camps within its borders.
Banerjee criticized the Centre for halting MGNREGA funds, revealing her attempts to discuss the issue with Prime Minister Modi and other central leaders, which have so far met with no response. She emphasized Bengal's readiness to sustain its 100-day work programme independently, dismissing central notices as ineffective.
The Chief Minister accused the BJP-led government of exploiting community divisions for electoral advantages and defended her administration's welfare initiatives. She highlighted efforts in reopening tea gardens and supporting vulnerable groups, contrasting them with what she described as the BJP's token gestures in other states. Banerjee further condemned actions by the Assam government against Bengalis and highlighted recent successful rescue efforts by her administration.
