Expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil made a contentious return to the public eye by casting his vote in the local body polls at Kunnathurmedu ward. His appearance followed protections secured against arrest in two sexual assault cases.
Previously absconding for over two weeks, Mamkootathil was questioned by reporters after voting, amid protest from DYFI's youth wing activists. Despite inquiries on his evasion and allegations, he remained tight-lipped, saying his defense was a matter for the courts.
Facing a second case of sexual assault from a Bengaluru resident, Mamkootathil has been granted interim protection and anticipatory bail, allowing his temporary liberty to vote while under scrutiny.
