Pankaj Chaudhary, affectionately termed 'Pinky Babu' by his close ones, has been appointed as the 17th president of the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit. Union Minister Piyush Goyal made the formal announcement on Sunday in the presence of top political figures, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak.
Chaudhary, who currently serves as the Union Minister of State for Finance, was unopposed in the election for the post. His extensive political career and strategic alignment as a Kurmi leader from Purvanchal are expected to strengthen the BJP's base ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Born into a well-known business family on November 15, 1964, Chaudhary was drawn to public service early, inspired by his brother. Initially a municipal councillor, he ascended political ranks to become a seven-time Lok Sabha MP, earning respect for his approachability and development initiatives.
