The final phase of the gram panchayat elections in Telangana kicked off on Wednesday, marking the conclusion of a tightly contested electoral process.
The polling, which began at 7 am, was set to wrap up by 1 pm, followed by the start of counting at 2 pm. Voters turned out in significant numbers, with a substantial 53 lakh casting their votes at 36,483 polling stations.
Competing for local governance, 12,652 candidates are vying for the role of Sarpanch, while 75,725 individuals seek ward member positions. Notably, the security apparatus was on high alert to ensure a peaceful process, as the state anticipates high voter turnout similar to previous phases, which saw over 84% participation.
