Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ethiopia has been marked as a historic milestone in strengthening bilateral ties. Arriving in Ethiopia on Tuesday, Modi led the way to forging a 'Strategic Partnership' with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, underscoring their country's long-standing relationship.
During his stay, both leaders signed multiple agreements including Memoranda of Understanding in areas such as UN Peacekeeping Operations Training, mutual administrative assistance in customs, and establishing a Data Centre at Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This move also introduced debt restructuring initiatives, cultural scholarships, AI courses, and maternal and neonatal healthcare support, reflecting a focus on empowering people through education and innovation.
In further recognition of these efforts, Modi was awarded Ethiopia's highest honor, the Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia. He also expressed gratitude for Ethiopia's strong stance against terrorism. Modi's address to the Joint Session of Parliament explored India's legacy as the 'Mother of Democracy' and emphasized the India-Ethiopia partnership's potential for the Global South.
