Maharashtra Sports Minister Manikrao Kokate finds himself in deepening legal trouble as a Nashik court issued an arrest warrant against him. The arrest warrant stems from a cheating and forgery case dating back to 1995, which has resurfaced, posing significant challenges for the minister.

This development follows closely on the heels of a district court's decision to uphold a two-year sentence originally handed to Kokate by a magistrate's court in February. Kokate has quickly responded by appealing the conviction in the Bombay High Court, with his plea seeking an urgent hearing set for Friday.

The warrant further escalates the legal proceedings initiated upon a complaint lodged by former Maharashtra minister, T S Dighole. Meanwhile, police in Nashik are set to take further action as they proceed with the arrest order.
