A fleeting panic ensued at a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) press conference on Thursday afternoon, hosted by party president Mayawati, when an unexpected plume of smoke filled the room due to a minor short circuit.

The incident, occurring during Mayawati's 70th birthday celebrations at the BSP headquarters in Lucknow, led to concerns but resulted in no harm or casualties, as per party officials' statements. A bulb malfunction is said to have caused the wire burn and subsequent smoke.

The state BSP president, Vishwanath Pal, assured that no fire erupted and all attendees, including Mayawati, were unscathed. The day was marked by festivities across Uttar Pradesh, recognized as 'Jan Kalyankari Diwas'.
