Ajay Rai, president of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, on Thursday accused the authorities of suppressing victims' voices following his detention by police in Muzaffarnagar. Rai was en route to offer condolences to the family of Rohit Kashyap, whose charred remains were discovered in Meerut on January 5.

Rai took to social media to express that he was arrested at the Bhangela outpost while heading towards the grieving family. Accusing the government of pressure tactics, Rai insisted the Congress would resist any form of injustice.

The incident has attracted widespread attention, with calls for an independent investigation growing loud. In light of political activism and demands from the family, local authorities transferred the investigation to the Crime Branch. The case saw numerous political figures, including Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati, condemning the murder, and urging swift justice for the victim.
