In a dramatic escalation, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has accused the Election Commission (EC) of engaging in political vendetta following a hearing notice to Rajya Sabha member Samirul Islam concerning electoral roll discrepancies.

The notice alleges mismatches between Islam's and his father's names on current rolls, prompting his summons on January 19 at Dunigram A Karim High School in Birbhum district.

The TMC has labeled the exercise as a political tool, with alleged links to Islam's activism in Bengali citizens' rights. The incident has stirred political tensions in West Bengal, amid similar notices served to other public figures.
