Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the incident as a security lapse and urged a thorough probe into the unsettling occurrence. No casualties emerged from the episode, but it rattled those present.
According to BSP state president Vishwanath Pal, the smoke originated from a fused bulb, which led to a wiring short circuit during Mayawati's address. He assured that there was no fire or significant damage, with the incident occurring in the final moments of the press meet.
