The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Congress were left reeling after failing to capture any positions in the recent Thane civic polls. In an election where both parties were wiped out, Congress' Thane chief Vikrant Chavan and MNS city head Ravindra More were among the key figures who lost.

Despite efforts to unite forces for impact, with notable figures like MNS chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray holding a joint rally in Thane, the results were dismal. Raj Thackeray had claimed that his candidates faced intense pressure, reportedly being offered 'crores of rupees' to back out of the election race.

The aftermath saw Congress' Chavan announce his resignation, citing the critical lack of a pre-poll alliance and insufficient funding as factors contributing to the party's poor performance.
