The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) elections concluded with a nail-biting finish, as the Shiv Sena emerged victorious over the BJP by a single seat. The final results, declared on Friday, positioned the Shiv Sena with 52 seats and the BJP close behind with 51 seats in the 122-member council.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) lagged significantly, capturing just 11 seats. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) garnered five, Congress took two, and the NCP (SP) secured one seat, as detailed by KDMC's election department. The election results underscore the parties' need for collaborative strategies, as no single entity achieved a majority.
Despite the tight contest, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance accomplished broader regional success, seizing control of 25 out of 29 municipal corporations, which notably includes Mumbai following elections on January 15. This backdrop of inter-party rivalry hints at upcoming intense negotiations and strategic maneuvering as each party aims to strengthen its influence.
