Union Minister G Kishan Reddy has emphasized the importance of the Bharatiya Janata Party's cadre-driven ethos as the party prepares to elect a new national president. Highlighting the BJP's commitment to unanimous leadership selection, Reddy noted the party's continued reliance on its vast network of workers across the nation, a strength that solidifies its reputation as the world's largest political party. "Tomorrow, the party president will be elected by the cadre," Reddy told reporters, underscoring the party's traditional roots.
The BJP is poised to witness a historic leadership transition with the election of a president from Bihar, marking the first time since the party's inception that leadership emerges from the state. Reddy pointed to this as a significant generational change, expressing confidence in the 'young leadership' set to lead the party. The election is scheduled for January 20, following the publication of internal electoral rolls, with the nomination process commencing today, January 19.
Currently, Bihar Minister Nitin Nabin serves as the working president and is anticipated to succeed Union Minister JP Nadda. According to the BJP constitution, the president is elected by an electoral college comprising national and state council members. In the case of a single nomination, the candidate assumes office without a vote. Senior leaders, such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Home Minister Amit Shah, are expected to be present in Delhi for the election.
