In a fiery session, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly witnessed tense moments on Tuesday as BJP lawmakers called for the establishment of a National Law University in Jammu. Simultaneously, the opposition parties drew attention to disturbing reports of Kashmiri harassment outside the Union Territory.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather maintained order by continuing with the Question Hour, dismissing an adjournment motion on alleged 'hate crimes' moved by PDP's Wahid Ur Rehman Para. The demand for the law university was raised by BJP's Surjit Singh Slathia, who emphasized equal educational opportunities for Jammu.
While placard displays by BJP MLAs drew criticism for breaking decorum, accusations of assaults on Kashmiris highlighted severe safety concerns. Despite disruptions, the Speaker reinforced the importance of procedural decorum and suggested addressing these issues without interrupting proceedings.
