In a political showdown in Latur, Maharashtra, the Congress and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) have both thrown their hats into the ring by fielding separate candidates for the mayor and deputy mayor positions in the local civic body elections.
The elections, scheduled for February 9, will see Congress corporator Jayshri Sonkamble and VBA's Nikita Somwanshi contend for the mayoral seat, while Congress's Snehal Utage and VBA's Sachin Gaikwad vie for the deputy mayor position.
With a comfortable majority of 43 out of 70 seats in the Latur Municipal Corporation, the Congress-VBA alliance presents a formidable front. Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has thrown its support behind VBA, advocating for social justice as espoused by key ideological figures.
