The BJP is expected to clinch the Mayor's post in Karimnagar, backed by independents, after emerging as the single largest party in municipal corporation elections. The party has also opted to sit in opposition in Nizamabad despite a strong performance there, according to party sources.
With 30 of the 66 wards in Karimnagar secured by the BJP, and additional support from independents and the All India Forward Block, the party is set to boost its seats to 35. This move positions them favorably for the Mayoral post, as confirmed by Union MoS (Home) Bandi Sanjay Kumar's discussions.
Meanwhile, Congress and the CPI are still negotiating over control in the Kothagudem corporation, where both parties won 22 wards each. Congress seems to be gaining ground to secure four other municipal corporations in the region: Nalgonda, Mancherial, Ramagundam, and Mahabubnagar. The election for key municipal roles is scheduled for February 16.
