Owaisi's Outcry: Citizenship Rights and Electoral Roll Controversy

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has accused the BJP-led government of attempting to undermine citizenship rights through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. In Telangana, he condemned harassment incidents against minorities and urged action against communal targeting during public events.

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has alleged that the BJP-led central government is engaging in tactics to undermine citizenship rights via the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Speaking at the AIMIM's 68th Revival Day celebrations, the Hyderabad MP suggested that this move follows its execution in Bihar, with Telangana and Maharashtra next in line.

Owaisi urged citizens to ensure their genuine names are included during the SIR process, which is anticipated around April–May in Telangana. He claimed the BJP's strategy involves the Election Commission of India's involvement, potentially affecting citizenship rights of many individuals.

Beyond electoral roll concerns, Owaisi condemned the harassment of a Muslim bun vendor by YouTubers during the Medaram Jatara festival in Telangana. He demanded stern action from the Telangana Police, arguing that such instances of intimidation and communal targeting are intolerable and should be legally addressed.
