India granted urgent docking approval for the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Lavan at Kochi after it experienced technical difficulties, government sources revealed on Friday.

The approval, allowing the ship and its 183 crew members to dock on humanitarian grounds, was issued shortly before the US submarine attack on another Iranian ship, IRIS Dena, near Sri Lanka.

The sinking of IRIS Dena, which occurred following its participation in an Indian naval exercise, has escalated tensions between the US and Iran, drawing international attention. Iranian officials condemned the attack, labeling it a 'war crime.'
