In a dramatic move, Congress plans to introduce a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, citing bias and unfair treatment towards opposition members, particularly Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The action is poised to take place during the second phase of the budget session starting March 9.
Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh expressed dissatisfaction over the Speaker's alleged repeated refusal to let Gandhi and other opposition leaders voice their concerns in the House. This sentiment is echoed by three Congress MPs—Mohammad Jawed, Kodikunnil Suresh, and Mallu Ravi—who accused Birla of partisan behavior and unwarranted actions against women MPs from the opposition.
The All India Trinamool Congress has thrown its weight behind the motion, as directed by party chairperson Mamata Banerjee. Meanwhile, BJP and Congress have both issued a 'three-line whip' instructing their MPs to attend the house amid the escalating tensions over this contentious issue.
