Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy raised serious concerns over alleged protocol lapses during President Droupadi Murmu's recent visit to West Bengal, emphasizing that political differences should not lead to disrespecting constitutional offices.
The controversy arose from a last-minute venue change for a Santal conference and the absence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other state ministers at the President's reception. Kumaraswamy stressed that in a mature democracy, constitutional institutions must be respected above politics.
State BJP President B Y Vijayendra echoed this sentiment, describing the incident as a dangerous precedent that disrespects not only the President but also India's tribal heritage. He called for accountability and reinforced that the dignity of the President's office should remain untouched by political rivalry.
