The second half of Parliament's Budget session is set to begin contentiously, as the Lok Sabha prepares to deliberate on an opposition-driven resolution to remove Speaker Om Birla. Legislators have accused him of partisanship, creating a tense atmosphere for the proceedings.
The opposition plans to challenge the government's foreign policy, particularly regarding Iran and its oil dealings with Russia amidst the US ‘waiver.’ Additionally, the recent voter roll revision in West Bengal, which removed nearly 60 lakh votes, is expected to fuel further debate.
In the midst of these debates, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has affirmed Speaker Birla's commitment to democracy and parliamentary principles. Meanwhile, the Electricity Amendment Bill and other legislative matters await consideration in the session, amidst a range of geopolitical and domestic pressures.
